TEACHING ENGLISH IN JAPAN COULD OPEN UP A WHOLE NEW WORLD FOR YOU

Do you think it might be interesting to experience another culture, teach
English to students who are actually enthusiastic about learning, or perhaps
learn a foreign language? You might actually find, as I did, that working in Japan ends up changing
your life. You start working for a Japanese company in the United States
or decide to go back to school and get your teaching credential or even
open up your own business in Japan. You never know.
There are many Language schools throughout Japan which are constantly looking
for native teachers. Usually, all they require is a 4-year college degree in any subject and
a desire to teach.
Many of the larger schools offer paid training and most schools, if they
don't provide furnished accomodations for their staff, will at least help
you find housing of your own.
The Japanese government requires schools to pay foreign teachers at least
\250,000/month (which is about $1,900 US at the current rate) and most schools will sponsor
their teachers for a work visa. A typical contract is for one, or sometimes
two years. The money I have made here has enabled me to repay my student
loans, as well as see many places in Asia. A friend of mine used the money
she made here to take a long tour of Europe.
If you are a recent grad or just bored doing the same old desk work every
day, you might want to give it a try. I taught in Japan a total
of about six years and, incidentally, I met my husband there. We have just recently
moved back to the United States, but I wonder for how long?
