KEEPING A JOURNAL
I kept a journal while I was dieting. This is a good idea because, not only can you reaffirm your objective, you can keep track of how much you have progressed, vent your frustrations and re-evaluate your regime. I wrote down what I ate, how much I weighed, how I was feeling about myself and life in general, and gave myself pep talks every day. I also put a picture of myself in the front of each month's journal. The first one had the date and the caption "Ugh! Never again!" A couple of months later the caption said, "Not perfect, but much better."
It's nice to have a record of your weight loss because you begin to see a pattern. I do the diet handbook no-no and weigh myself every day, so there is a lot of fluctuation. Sometimes the pattern goes down, up, down, down, up, down, so when you're in the up position, you can look at your record and be satisfied that it will soon go down again.
It's been a year and a half since I lost that extra weight, and I am feeling great. My daily routine has become a habit, and although I let up a bit on the diet, I am still ever vigilant. You should give it a try. You have nothing to lose!
